Mark Twain Elementary became an IB World school authorized to provide the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program in March 2005 and evaluated in 2008. We began implementing the program in 2001 by developing curriculum and instruction in support of the IB educational framework.
The Primary Years Program, known as PYP, is an inquiry-based approach to learning, focusing on the growth of the developing child, addressing the social, physical, emotional and cultural needs in addition to academic progress.
The aim of all International Baccalaureate programs is to develop internationally minded people who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world.
IB learners strive to develop the Learner Profile with the attributes of inquirers, thinkers, communicators and risk-takers who are knowledgeable, principled, caring, open-minded, balanced and reflective.
